Living Resurrection

Author: Andrea Shurley, President, Ursuline Academy of Dallas

Easter draws nearer with each day, and we look to rejoice in the promise at the heart of our faith: that life is stronger than death, hope outlasts fear, and God is always at work making all things new. The Resurrection does not remove the challenges of our world, but instead transforms them, inviting us to live with renewed courage, deeper trust, and abiding joy.

Even as we eagerly anticipate the gifts of Easter, we welcome the gifts of Holy Week that must happen first. Holy Week leads us through the honesty and grief of Good Friday, the quiet waiting of Holy Saturday, and the happiness of Easter morning. We know that faith is not a denial of suffering, but a commitment to walk through it together, trusting that God’s love has the final word. Resurrection is not only something we proclaim; it is something we live – when we forgive, when we serve, and when we remain faithful even in uncertain moments.

How do we sustain ourselves through these hard days between now and Easter? Pope Leo XIV opened the Lenten season with a reminder to the Church that every path of renewal begins with listening: listening to God’s Word and listening to one another, especially amid the noise, distraction, and urgency of daily life. To listen, he teaches, is to make room for relationship, conversion, and hope.

Through her counsels, St. Angela Merici implores us to keep our ears open to the voice of the Holy Spirit. She invites us to be attentive and to listen for God’s voice in prayer and silence, in one another, and in the needs of the world entrusted to our care.

Easter assures us that when we listen with open hearts, we are changed and new life follows. We are called to lift our gaze beyond what weighs us down and to Seek what gives life. At Ursuline, we Seek truth with courage, Seek justice with compassion, and Seek to serve with generous hearts. Easter renews this call. The Risen Christ sends us forth as listeners, companions, and witnesses ready to bring hope, kindness, and light wherever we are planted.

May this Easter season strengthen our trust in God’s abiding love and deepen our commitment to one another. As we rejoice in the Resurrection, may we continue to Seek the path that leads to life, confident that Christ walks with us always.
